Brief

01

Mira represented 32 photographers across Europe. Their margins were collapsing as brands turned to AI image generation. They needed to reposition before their business model evaporated.

Challenge

02

Reposition Mira from 'photo agency' (commoditized) to 'image direction partner' (strategic). Convince clients that human direction matters more than ever in an AI-saturated visual culture.

Our approach

03

A new platform : 'Direction over generation.' We rebuilt the website around case studies (not portfolios), structured talent profiles around point of view (not just style), and launched a quarterly print magazine 'IRIS' as the brand's manifesto.

Outcome

04

Strong growth in long-term retainer clients in 6 months vs the previous year. Significantly higher average contract value. Magazine IRIS Issue 01 sold out quickly. Two talents featured in major photography press.

Our perspective

What this project teaches us about the craft.

AI didn't kill photography — it killed undifferentiated agencies

When generative AI hit the visual industry hard in 2024, the agencies that suffered weren't the ones with the best photographers. They were the ones that couldn't articulate what they did beyond 'we connect brands with photographers'. That's exactly what AI does cheaper. Mira's repositioning around 'image direction' — the strategic and editorial layer on top of capture — moved the category fight to a layer where AI doesn't compete. Talent kept the same. The conversation around the talent changed.
