Brief

01

The Ksar family had run a leather-and-textile workshop in the Marrakech medina for four generations. They sold 100% to French and Italian luxury houses (Hermès, Loro Piana). The youngest son wanted to build a direct-to-consumer brand without losing the craft's soul.

Challenge

02

Honor four generations of craft while building a brand that works on Instagram, Shopify and at department stores. Avoid the orientalist clichés that haunt 'Moroccan' brands abroad.

Our approach

03

A brand built on documentary truth. We spent 5 weeks filming the workshop. We named the brand 'Ksar & Sons' — direct, dynastic, modern. Every product page tells the maker's story. Limited drops, no discounts, ever.

Outcome

04

Strong first-year direct-to-consumer revenue. Listed at premium retailers in 3 markets. Healthy average order value with strong return customer base. Coverage in design and lifestyle press.

Our perspective

What this project teaches us about the craft.

Heritage craft as a modern brand language

Heritage craft brands have a default failure mode : they wrap themselves in nostalgia and orientalist visual codes that international customers find condescending. Ksar & Sons avoided that trap by treating heritage as a documentary subject, not a marketing aesthetic. Every product page tells the artisan's story through verifiable detail — the bench, the tools, the lineage — instead of decorative claims about authenticity. The brand reads as serious craft because it is serious craft. Customers can tell.
